The DUO Liepe

Brothers can be poles apart – but when the brothers Nils and Niklas Liepe perform together, they merge into near perfect harmony. The music they make is steeped in ardent emotionality, stemming from what can only be the sense of intuition that develops in long years together. With the Liepe & Co. Festival, founded by the two brothers at a steel warehouse near Hannover’s South Train Station, they are testing the limits of classical music anew.

The two brothers Niklas (violin) and Nils Liepe (piano) began their chamber music career as children. At the ages of 11 and 13 they made their first radio recording with Radio Opole in Poland.
In April 2014 their CD with works by Albeniz, Turina and Ginastera, in cooperation with the SWR Broadcasting Corporation, was released by Hänssler-Classic and was hailed by the media as a brilliant recording, rich in contrasts. In 2017 they were laureates of the German Music Competition and won the Capriccio Music Prize the same year.

In the 2019/2020 season the Liepe Duo will be appearing on the ZDF German Television morning show, at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, at the Berlin Philharmonic and the Glocke in Bremen, among others. The duo has performed throughout Europe and in China.

They have worked with Andras Schiff, Ana Chumachenco and Yuri Bashmet, all of whom were full of enthusiastic praise, predicting a bright future for the duo.

The Liepe brothers enjoyed university-level studies with such renowned chamber music professors as Markus Becker (Hannover) and Anthony Spiri (Cologne). They were awarded their Master’s Degree in Chamber Music from the University of Music in Hannover, studying with Professor Oliver Wille of the Kuss Quartett.
